Team 4: PHEAA CEO Upset Over Exposed Travel Expenses

On the heels of a Team 4 Investigation, the head of Pennsylvania's student loan agency is vowing to make changes in PHEAA's travel expense policy.

Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency released spending records that WTAE Channel 4 Action News had to go to court to obtain.

Now, after Team 4 exposed some questionable travel expenses, PHEAA's CEO is talking about change.

PHEAA communications director Keith New said CEO Dick Willey is very upset about some expenses that were uncovered in records requested by Team 4.

Those records should come as no surprise to Willey, because Team 4 made the request for the documents a year and a half ago.

PHEAA is just releasing them now under court order.

Still, Willey apparently didn't know that employees were charging the agency for tuxedo rentals, kegs of beer at 7 Springs and something else uncovered, a $400 tab for drink tickets for schools and clients, so they wouldn't have to spend their own money at a cash bar.

New won't say what action Willey plans to take, other than to say he vented his anger to top staff members on Thursday and is looking to rewrite the agency's policy on client entertainment expenses.

In the meantime, PHEAA has not given Team 4 access to over half the expense records Team 4 requested.
