Local Funeral Home Allows Owners To Be Buried With Pets

Animal lovers tend to develop special bonds with their pets, and it's not uncommon for people to want the best for their animals when they die, which is what sparked the idea for a unique cemetery that is opening in Mercer County.

The cemetery allows pet owners to be buried with their pets.

On the Avenue of Flags leading to the John Flynn Cemetery, the brand-new building at the entrance is designated for pets.

The Flynn family opened the pet funeral home and crematory, offering grief counseling, caskets, urns, and even memorial services with viewings.

"We can do any pet that you have, whether it's a hamster, snake, whatever you consider a pet to you," said Roberta Knauf of the funeral home. "We have little keepsake urns that you can have your animal put in."

The Flynns said it might be the only cemetery of its kind in Pennsylvania.

Prices for lots range from about $125 for a memorial service up to about $700, which also includes the gravesite.
