An explosion at a Kane Regional Care Center in the North Hills sent five employees to a local hospital.

A 12-ounce can of propane that was heating a small oven device blew up in an employee's face during breakfast Wednesday morning.

Eighty residents were moved behind firewalls. None of them was hurt.

In all, five employees were injured, suffering either from burns or inhalation.

"For all intents and purposes, this is an accident," said Bob Full, of Allegheny County Emergency Management. "We'll be investigating it further on the process of the can of gas, the cooking device itself and all those kinds of things."
