Autopsy Scheduled For Death Of 5-Month-Old

POSTED: 4:06 pm EDT October 26, 2006
UPDATED: 10:17 am EDT October 27, 2006

An autopsy is scheduled for a 5-month-old Stowe Township baby that died at a local hospital Thursday evening, authorities said.

A woman claiming to be Alijah Schaffer's aunt said the parents couldn’t wake him up Thursday night and tried calling 911, but couldn’t get through.

Finally, she said the family, which doesn’t own a vehicle, got help by going through the local Stowe Township Police Department.

The boy's family said their initial call to 911 was around the time the Allegheny County 911 system was having problems.

County emergency officials said they are fully cooperating with authorities in the investigation. Investigators said it is too early to tell if the 911 system played a part in the case.

Due to a backlog at the Allegheny County medical examiner's officer, autopsy results aren’t expected to be available for about five months.
