Route 65 Meeting Angers Some ResidentsSupervisors Do Not Let Residents Express Their ViewsPOSTED: 10:48 pm EDT October 17,
2006 PITTSBURGH -- The Route 65 landslide clogged a major East Coast rail line.It erased a commuter artery for thousands of drivers for days. The accident rippled beyond the borders of Kilbuck Township.A meeting took place for residents to discuss the landslide, but only residents of the area were able to speak."After the landslide, community first was quick to level unsubstantiated accusations against the developer and Kilbuck Township officials," said Tim Frew, the Kilbuck Township chairman of the supervisors.Angry at a group of Wal-Mart opponents, he said it's still unclear what caused the slide, saying it might not have anything to do with local ordinances the supervisors waived."Prior to granting any waivers at issue, the Township required the developer to perform a variety of tests by qualified and independent geo-technical engineers," said Frew."It was just amazing that they didn't want to hear anything from anyone," said Roseanne Domencic, a resident of Emsworth. She loves Wal-mart and lives just outside the Township. She remembers the blast that brought down the hillside."But, my home actually swayed side to side for about five seconds," said Domencic. She only had a question."The damage might already be done, I just want to know will somebody cover it if there is damage?" Domencic asked."We're hoping next time we'll be allowed to speak," said Bob Keir. Copyright 2006 by ThePittsburghChannel. All rights reserved.
