Search Warrant In Regola Case Could Be Made PublicPOSTED: 4:45 pm EDT October 4,
2006 State Sen. Bob Regola said his family had nothing to do with a young neighbor's murder. The body of Louis Farrell, 14, was found in July, shot to death behind Regola's home. Two months after his death, many questions about what happened have been left unanswered.Currently, there's a legal battle brewing over the details of a search warrant that was served on Regola's home in August.During that time, state police left the house with a computer and other materials, but what exactly was found has been kept secret. The court sealed the warrant, a move requested by Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck. However, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and our news exchange partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune Review petitioned a judge to unseal that search warrant.Late Wednesday afternoon, Judge Rita Donovan Hathaway granted that motion.Hathaway said in her decision that, "When a child dies from suspicious circumstances, the public wants to know, needs to know, the truth. The court determines that unsealing the warrant at this time will not impede that investigation. If anything, at this juncture, it may encourage others to come forward if they see a discrepancy."But, those details are not coming out Wednesday.Peck filed and received a last minute court order for a stay of Judge Hathaway's decision until a hearing can be held on Oct. 10.The investigation into Farrell's death remains wide open and has not been ruled a suicide, accident or homicide.
