Shopping Shuffle: Plenty Of Changes In North Hills

Some new retailers are coming -- and others are already open -- at shopping districts in the North Hills, Channel 4 Action News reporter Janelle Hall said.

With two Target department stores already located a few miles from each other, local speculation among shoppers is that a new Target set to open in Ross Township may force one of them to close.

But Hall learned that's not the case. Target officials think there is enough demand for three stores -- one off Camp Horne Road, one on lower McKnight Road and one in McCandless.

Also, there has been a lot of movement lately at Ross Park Mall.

  • Coach, a handbag store, opened at the end of May.
  • Sephora, which sells makeup, opened up this past weekend.
  • Construction on a Cheesecake Factory restaurant in front of the mall started on Monday.
  • The DSW shoe store closed, and a Journeys shoe store is coming soon.
  • A Nordstrom department store is scheduled to open in 2008.
  • Mall officials said the changes are part of a redevelopment project aimed at bringing a greater variety of high-end stores to the area.

There's no word yet on what may move into the McKnight Road space formerly occupied by Sam's Club, which recently relocated to Camp Horne Road.
