Hormel Recalls 104,000 Pounds Of ChiliPlastic Calculator Parts Found In ProductPOSTED: 11:33 a.m. EST January 29, 2004 WASHINGTON -- Hormel Foods is recalling some 104,000 pounds of Stagg canned chili from stores in 16 states because it may contain plastic and other material.
The Agriculture Department says the pieces of plastic came from a handheld calculator.
Hormel, which owns Stagg Foods, issued the recall after getting complaints from consumers who found a calculator button and a piece of plastic in chili they had purchased. No injuries have been reported.
The chili was made Nov. 24, 2003, and sold in 15-ounce cans labeled "Stagg Chili, Steak House Reserve, Chili with Beans, Hearty Beef with a Kick of Green Chilies." The cans were sold six to a case.
The cans and cases bear one of the following date codes: "S112434," "S112435," or "S112436." The cases and cans also bear the establishment number "Est. 199C" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The chili was distributed to retail stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wisconsin.
