Project Economy: New Program Helps Homeless, Near-Homeless

Homelessness Prevention And Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) Available In Allegheny County

POSTED: 5:54 pm EDT October 20, 2009

Allegheny County and Pittsburgh officials have a new program for homeless people and those who would become homeless without help.

The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) can provide short-term assistance with rent, utility payments, relocation services and access to financial counseling.

Qualified participants must be homeless, or their current household must be below 50 percent of the area median income -- which is about $31,000 for a family of four.

More information is available any time on the county's Web site or by calling 877-350-HPRP Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

More than $14 million in stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is helping to make the HPRP possible.
