WTAE Channel 4 teamed up with Innovative and Recruiting Group for the Showcase Career Expo on Tuesday at the Mall at Robinson.

The event offered job seekers information about current openings as well as the chance to meet with professionals ready to help guide people to a new career.

"There are still plenty of jobs out there and some very good jobs," said Cindy Foight of Innovative Recruiting.

In Pennsylvania, the unemployment rate is 7.8 percent, down slightly from the national rate, which is 8.9 percent.

"It is hard. I find it very frustrating to spend so much time online looking for a job. Sometimes it's easier to talk to people, but you don't really have that opportunity," said Debbie Murphy, who lost her job in November.

Allegheny County's unemployment rate in March was 6.6 percent. In Fayette County the rate was 8.7 percent. In the Pittsburgh region, the highest rate was in Armstrong County, where unemployment was at 9.3 percent.

As of May 1, the Web site ImagineMyNewJob.com had 22,000 jobs open in the Pittsburgh area.

"Don't give up hope. Really take a look at what skills you have and try to match that up with some of the opportunities that are out there," said Allegheny Conference Vice President Jim Futrell.
