Stimulate All of Your Senses at the Zoo!
Fresh air and moderate sunlight are physically and mentally healthy. But, a walk at the Zoo can be even more entertaining, educating, and a good experience, even for a baby. The Zoo provides different sights, scents, and sounds that rarely can be experienced anywhere else, even if they are not immediately understood. (And, even if the scents aren't particularly pleasant to you, initially your baby won't have the opinion you might have!)
A walk through the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is a little more than one mile from the top of the escalator, around the Zoo path (which is a complete circle). There are groups of eight polar bear foot prints at approximately every 200 steps. 2,000 steps generally equals a mile. A family membership pays for itself in two visits for a family of four, and parking is free. Plus, you can visit more than 100 other Zoos across the country for free or at a discount with your Pittsburgh Zoo membership.
Because the Pittsburgh Zoo paths are intimate, you can keep an eye on your children while they get close to the animals and get a broader view and appreciation of the world beyond our own backyard. You and your children will experience beautiful gardens and colors, beautiful (and cute) animals, and a bonding experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. You probably already have some stories about the cutest things your children say when they look at the unique animals at the Zoo, and you probably have a memory of the Zoo when you were a child! Either way, the Zoo is an all-around healthy experience.
