Dunedin, FL -- Reed Johnson singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 in spring training action Monday. After waiting out an hour-long rain delay, Pittsburgh plated four runs in the top of the second and another in the fourth, while Toronto scored two runs in the first and fourth innings and one in the eighth to tie the game, 5-5. That set up Johnson's RBI single, which scored Ken Huckaby from second.
Toronto starter Roy Halladay struck out two of the three batters he faced, but did not return after the rain delay. Miguel Batista earned the win with one scoreless inning of work. Pittsburgh starter Kip Wells gave up two runs on three hits in two innings of work, but did not figure into the decision. Reliever Ron Chiavacci took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in one inning. Tike Redman went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in for Pittsburgh.
