Bradenton, FL -- Rob Mackowiak belted a pair of solo homers and drove in three runs, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 9-4 victory over the New York Yankees. Ty Wigginton added a three-run homer and finished with four runs batted in for the Pirates, who battered Yankee pitching for 12 hits. Matt Lawton also hit a solo homer, while Mackowiak chipped in an RBI double for a three-hit effort. Ryan Vogelsong earned the win with four solid innings. He gave up a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Yankee starter Kevin Brown was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Tony Womack was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for New York, while Robinson Cano clubbed a two-run homer.
