Kissimmee, FL -- Ryan Doumit doubled home Cesar Crespo with the only run of the game in the ninth inning, lifting the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Crespo started the ninth with a single off loser Buddy Hernandez, advanced to second on a bunt and stole third before scoring on Doumit's pinch-hit double to right. Salomon Torres picked up the win with two innings of one-hit relief. He retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Pittsburgh starter Kip Wells pitched three hitless innings with one strikeout, retiring all nine batters he faced. John Thomson allowed one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings for Atlanta. Horacio Ramirez also tossed three innings of one-hit ball.
