Cubs' Lee Honored As NL Player Of The Month

(Sports Network) - Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee was named the National League Player of the Month for September.

Lee led the majors with a .386 batting average, nine home runs, a .500 on-base percentage and a .795 slugging percentage. The two-time All-Star also had 23 runs batted in and 25 runs scored this past month.

The 34-year-old finished the season with a .306 batting average, 111 RBI and 35 home runs. This is his second monthly award and his first since April 2005.

Other players receiving votes were Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (.348, 7 HR, 16 RBI); St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols (.375, 6 HR, 24 RBI); first baseman Joey Votto (.374, 4 HR, 16 RBI) of the Cincinnati Reds; Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard (.288, 6 HR, 27 RBI); Chris Coghlan (.382 0 HR, 6 RBI) of the Florida Marlins; and infielder Casey McGehee (.337, 5 HR, 26 RBI) of the Milwaukee Brewers.
