Church, Escobar Hurt In Collision At End Of Game

Atlanta, GA -- (Sports Network) - New York Mets right fielder Ryan Church and Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar were hurt in a collision at the conclusion of the nightcap of a doubleheader on Tuesday.Damion Easley grounded into a double play to end Atlanta's 6-2 win, but Church and Escobar were injured on the play. Church, who was on first after a single, tried to break up the double play with a slide. Escobar, racing toward first after he fielded the ball, had his knee collide with Church, who was left with a bloody forehead after it scraped off the dirt. Both Church and Escobar had to be helped off the field. Church was diagnosed with a minor concussion and was taken to Piedmont Hospital. Escobar was limping in the locker room after bruising his right knee. This is the second concussion for Church this year. He was hurt during a spring training game when he collided with first baseman Marlon Anderson. Church is hitting . 311 with a team-leading nine homers and has 32 RBI in 42 games this season, while Escobar is batting .315 with four homers and 20 RBI over 44 contests.
