Yankees' Damon Not In Lineup

POSTED: 9:31 pm EDT July 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - New York Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon was not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Boston Red Sox.

Damon left Friday's 6-4 setback to the Sox after suffering a left shoulder contusion on a bizarre play in the third inning.

Boston's Kevin Youkilis hit a fly ball to deep left that Damon appeared to catch. Replays showed that the ball actually bounced out of his glove and onto the top of the fence, where it sat still for a moment before falling back onto the field.

Damon, meanwhile, slammed his back into the fence on the play, and clutched his side in pain. The former Sox outfielder was replaced in left by Brett Gardner.

Damon is listed as day-to-day and Gardner got the nod again in left. Gardner knocked in a run as the Yankees took a 2-1 decision.
