New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - New York Yankees reliever LaTroy Hawkins was given a three-game suspension and undisclosed fine by Major League Baseball, for an incident in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to Baltimore.

The league found that in the top of the sixth inning, Hawkins intentionally threw at the head of the Orioles' Luke Scott. Hawkins actually threw far inside to Scott twice, prompting an immediate ejection for the pitcher and both benches to clear -- though no brawl ensued.

The suspension was scheduled to begin Thursday night, as the Yankees play Baltimore in the rubber match of their three-game series. However, Hawkins has elected to file an appeal.
