Donato Hanover Named Top Three-Year-Old Trotter

(Sports Network) - Donato Hanover, winner of the Hambletonian, has been voted champion three-year-old male trotter for 2007 in voting by the U.S. Harness Writers Association. The results for the Dan Patch Awards were announced Tuesday by the U.S. Trotting Association.

Donato Hanover set a single season earnings record for trotters this year with $2.3 million and won 11 of 13 starts. Trained by Steve Elliott and driven by Ron Pierce, the colt registered wins in the World Trotting Derby and Canadian Trotting Classic. He began the year with 11 straight wins, but was upset in the Breeders Crown.

The three-year-old is considered a strong candidate for Horse of the Year which will be announced on Sunday, January 27 along with Pacer of the Year and Trotter of the Year at the Night of Champions in Dover, Delaware.

Little Brown Jug winner Tell All is champion three-year-old male pacer, while Mister Big has been named champion older male pacer. Mister Big won the U.S. Pacing Championship on his way to earning $1.31 million in 2007. Tell All finished the year with earnings of $1.5 million.

Trainer Steve Elliott also sent out Southwind Tempo to become champion three- year-old female pacer. The filly won 16 of 21 starts for $863,604.

Somebeachsomewhere went a perfect six for six on his way to being voted champion two-year-old male pacer. He earned $773,296 for trainer Jean Louis Arsenault and Schooner Stables.

The two-year-old filly pacer is A And G'sconfusion. Trained by Mark Capone, A And G'sconfusion won five of 10 starts for $817,020.

Breeders Crown winner Moving Pictures is the champion older female pacer. She earned $826,577 while winning nine of 17 starts in 2007.

Former Hambletonian winner Vivid Photo is the champion older male trotter of the year. The five-year-old won the Titan Cup and Trotting Classic this year and finished 2007 with $738,769. Vivid photo won the Dan Patch Award in 2005 as champion three-year-old.

Mystical Sunshine, winner of the Breeders Crown at Mohawk, is the champion older female trotter for 2007. She finished the year with eight wins in 19 starts for $337,070.

Pampered Princess joined Donato Hanover as a repeat winner of a Dan Patch Award. The two trotters were last year's champion two-year-olds. Pampered Princess was voted top three-year-old female trotter based on her 2007 record of six wins in 15 starts and more than $1 million in earnings.

Breeders Crown winner Deweycheatumnhowe is champion two-year-old male trotter. He won all 10 starts for $936,191.

Snow White, winner of the Breeders Crown, has been named champion two-year-old female trotter for 2007. She earned $1.25 million in her first year of racing while winning 11 of 13 starts.

Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin will get serious at Santa Anita Park this Monday, when he works five furlongs over Santa Anita's Pro-Ride synthetic main track between races. The work, which will be performed in company with another Steve Asmussen trainee, has been scheduled between races four and five (approx. 2:45 p.m. pt) and it is expected that if all goes well with the work, he will be pre-entered on Tuesday for a defense of his $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic title and a showdown with Big Brown at Oak Tree at Santa Anita on Oct. 25.
