Donato Hanover One To Beat In Kentucky Futurity

POSTED: 3:30 pm EDT October 3, 2007

(Sports Network) - Hambletonian winner Donato Hanover is the trotter to beat in Saturday's $742,000 Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile. The Futurity is the final race trotting's Triple Crown for three-year-olds.

Donato Hanover, trained by Steve Elliott, will be driven by Ron Pierce as the colt goes after his 10th straight win this year and 18th overall. This year Donato Hanover has earned $1,908,000, just $10,701 off Glidemaster's single season record of $1,918,701 for a trotter.

Along with his 2007 Hambletonian victory, Donato Hanover has also won the Canadian Trotting Classic and World Trotting Derby for owners David Scharf, Golden Touch Stable and Steven Arnold. For his career he has earned more than $2.5 million with 17 wins in 18 lifetime starts.

"He's just a good horse, just a good horse," said Elliott, "and I've got a good crew. He's just got a great temperament, that's all, a really, really good temperament, nothing fazes him, he doesn't get excited about anything."

Donato Hanover was held out of the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Yonkers Trot, which was won by Green Day.

The Futurity will be contested in two heats with Donato Hanover starting the second elimination heat from post five. The second elimination has nine trotters while the first heat has eight.

Leading filly Pampered Princess will also race the second elimination race from post eight with Hall of Fame driver John Campbell. Owned by Bob and David Anderson, Pampered Princess has earned $804,021 this year with six wins in 10 starts. In her career she has collected $1,430,265. Jimmy Takter is the trainer of the filly.

Pampered Princess took on Donato Hanover in the Hambletonian and Canadian Trotting Classic. In the Hambletonian she won an elimination race before fading to seventh in the final. She was second in her elimination race in the Canadian Trotting Classic and second in the final to Donato Hanover.

Yonkers Trot champ Green Day will start in the first elimination race from post three with Andy Miller driving. The trotter is owned by Trillium Racing Stable and trained by Jimmy Raymer. Green Day has won 10 of 18 starts this year for $612,175.
