HANOI, Vietnam -- A day after announcing the recent deaths of three people from bird flu, a Vietnamese official says three more people may have died from the disease.
A health official said all three were young adults who died suddenly this month. But the official said no samples were taken from them, preventing health officials from confirming whether they were indeed victims of the deadly virus.
Vietnamese officials confirmed Thursday that a woman and two children died from the disease in early August. Those were the first officially reported cases of bird flu in Vietnam since late February.
Vietnam declared itself bird-flu free at the end of March after an outbreak killed 16 people. Some 43 million chickens and other poultry either died of the disease or were slaughtered.
Thailand had 12 cases and eight deaths of the disease earlier this year.
