2009 BRADDOCK, Pa. -- The fight to save UPMC Braddock hospital spilled out onto the streets outside the 100-plus-year-old medical facility on Thursday afternoon.Hundreds of people stood in the rain outside the main entrance at Fifth Street and Braddock Avenue. Some sang "we shall overcome some day" as they showed support for the community hospital that's scheduled to close at the end of January."We aren't statistics. We are people. This is not about bottom line. This is about the fabric of a whole community," one woman said.Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato wants to create a working group to take a proposal before UPMC's board, hoping to change the health system officials' minds.
