Free Prescriptions Available For People In Need

Partnership For Prescription Assistance Offers Financial Relief

POSTED: 5:25 pm EDT October 22, 2009

Help is available for uninsured patients who are struggling to afford their prescriptions in Pennsylvania.

The Partnership For Prescription Assistance bus pulled into Harrisburg to spread the word with ex-Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis on Thursday.

PPA is sponsored by America's pharmaceutical research companies. It helps patients who are uninsured and struggling financially to find programs that offer prescription medicines for free or nearly free.

People can find out if they qualify by going to the PPA Web site or calling toll-free at 888-4PPA-NOW.

Bettis has had to manage his asthma since childhood. His role on Thursday was to stress the importance of taking necessary medications.

"Don't give up hope," Bettis said. "As long as you can manage the disease, I'm testament to that."
