Report: Climate Change Serious Threat To PennsylvaniaPOSTED: 7:14 am EDT October 1,
2008 PITTSBURGH -- A new report coming out on Wednesday says climate change is a serious threat to the keystone state. The Union of Concerned Scientists will release their findings in a new report detailing the threat global warming poses to Pennsylvania. The report focuses on the threats facing residents, especially in regards to health. When it comes to emissions output, Pennsylvania ranks third in the country and the report says if that's not curtailed, there could be major consequences for the state, like major losses for farmers and the decline of some tree species. The UCS report also warns of major climate changes, like extreme summers where temperatures reach higher than 100 degrees in some parts of the state. The findings also detail the effects on streams and rivers, many of which they warn will not be able to sustain fish and the effect changes to the climate will have on many of the key crops grown in Pennsylvania. The amount of snow the state gets every winter could be reduced to nothing -- which could cause ski resorts to go out of business. The UCS has faced criticism in the past for similar reports. The findings were released on Wednesday morning at the Carnegie Science Center. To read the full report, click here Related Links:
