Algae Blamed For Big Fish Kill In Greene County CreekTests Indicate Golden Algae Grew In Dunkard CreekPOSTED: 5:07 pm EDT October 3, 2009 Authorities have blamed algae commonly found in coastal waters for a big fish kill in a Greene County, Pa., creek.The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection said the golden algae grew in Dunkard Creek and was fueled by discharges from local coal mines. The combination killed hundreds of fish and mussels in the creek.The DEP is also exploring options to get rid of the algae without harming the environment. More test results are pending.
