UPDATED: 2:40 pm EDT October 5, 2007

America's drive-in has come to western Pennsylvania.

The first Sonic restaurant in the Pittsburgh area opened early Friday morning in the Village at Pittsburgh Mills.

Customers will be able to pull up, order food and wait for a carhop to bring it to their vehicles.

Sonic is also known for its unique menu of cold drinks.

The founder of Kings Family Restaurants also holds a local Sonic franchise and is planning to open several restaurants around the region. Ground has already been broken on a location on Washington Road in North Strabane, Washington County.
