Teen Center To Memorialize Football Player Killed In CrashMarcus Marietta Had Passion For Faith, FootballPOSTED: 10:08 am EDT October 11, 2009 NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Plans are under way to build a teen center in honor of a Connellsville High School football player killed in a crash in July.Marcus Marietta, 18, was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in North Union Township before his death in Uniontown."It's going to be very difficult to get rid of the car. This is the last thing that he was fully alert and functioning in," said Marietta's father, the Rev. Ewing Marietta.On Saturday morning, a fundraiser replete with a yard sale, concert and a dunk booth was held to raise money for the teen center. The Marcus Marietta Center will provide a place where teens can worship and take part in youth activities."What we want to do is provide a place of worship for youth to come and enjoy themselves (with) a time of reading the Bible and have activities for the youth," Ewing Marietta said.Marcus Marietta was home-schooled and had a passion for faith and football. He was bound for Liberty University on a football scholarship."Marcus loved sports. He enjoyed sports," Ewing Marietta said.The church held a yard sale and gospel sing on Friday evening that featured 16 gospel groups.
