Flag-Football Tourney Honors Randy Pausch

Late-CMU Professor Wrote About Living, Having Positive Attitude

POSTED: 5:56 pm EST November 1, 2009

A flag-football tournament held Sunday honored the late-Carnegie Mellon University professor Randy Pausch, who wrote about living and having a positive attitude.

His friends took that message to the football field Sunday for the second annual Randy Pausch Memorial Flag Football Tournament.

This year, 32 teams entered the competition. Organizers said the all-day affair at South Park was something that Pausch would have loved.

"Everybody likes to play some ball," said Glenn Birkenfield, a co-organizer of the event. "Randy gets a lot of credit for his last lecture, but it's important to remember he said that he felt the most at home on a football field. So, it's appropriate to honor him this way."

Pausch died of pancreatic cancer in July 2008. His final lecture was turned into a best-selling book that inspired millions around the world.
