Rally Held To Push Equal Rights For Housing, Employment

Some Council Members Withdraw Support For Non-Discrimination Policy

POSTED: 5:42 pm EST January 10, 2009

A rally in Pittsburgh on Saturday urged Allegheny County lawmakers to seek equal rights for residents who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered.

The rally, held in Schenley Park in the city's Oakland neighborhood, was aimed at the County Council, which is considering a bill that spells out a non-discrimination policy when it comes to housing and employment.

Some members of council have withdrawn their support of the bill.

Many people are expected to speak about the bill at a County Council public hearing on Thursday.
