Stadium-Area Amphitheater Project DelayedPOSTED: 1:39 p.m. EDT September 15, 2003 PITTSBURGH -- You'll have to wait a while longer to enjoy a concert under the stars next to Heinz Field.
Steelers president Art Rooney II said a proposed 5,600-seat amphitheater and nightclub project near the team's stadium on the North Side is behind schedule.
Team officials had originally hoped to start construction in June on the $10 million project (see sketch, left). Now, it looks like ground won't be broken until 2004.
Rooney said talks are ongoing with several promoters, including the national House of Blues franchise.
Two other projects in the area remain on schedule: the $30 million Equitable Resources headquarters and a 198-room Marriott Spring Hill Suites hotel.
In March 2004, construction should begin on a mix of apartments, shopping, restaurants and entertainment on other stadium-area land on the North Side.
