Police To Recommend Felony DUI Charges For Actor Conrad'Wild West' Star In Head-On Car Crash Last MonthPOSTED: 4:55 p.m. EDT April 14, 2003 The California Highway Patrol said Monday that it will recommend veteran
television actor Robert Conrad be charged with felony driving under the
influence after the actor allegedly crashed head-on with another vehicle
two weeks ago.
Conrad 74, who starred as the gunslinger James T. West in
the 1960s television series "Wild Wild West," was arrested March 31 in
the Sierra foothills when his car crossed over into oncoming traffic and
hit another car, said the CHP.
According to The Associated Press, both Conrad and the other driver,
26-year-old Kevin Burnett, were hospitalized after the accident.
Burnett suffered multiple injuries and is recovering at home, CHP
Officer Bryan Duquesnel said Monday.
Duquesnel said that Conrad "caused significant injury to Mr. Burnett and
his blood alcohol results place us in a position that we're going to
recommend to the district attorney's office that he face a felony
charge."
The CHP has not released the results of Conrad's blood alcohol tests
after the incident. The felony charge recommendation will be forwarded
to the Calaveras County district attorney's office within a week,
Duquesnel said.
In addition to "The Wild Wild West," Conrad also starred as Maj. Greg
"Pappy" Boyington in the hit 1970s television series "Baa Baa Black
Sheep" (aka "The Black Sheep Squadron").
He has mostly starred in television movies over the course of his
career, which dates back to the late 1950s. He's made several guest
appearances on popular television shows, including "Sea Hunt," "77
Sunset Strip," "Mission: Impossible" and most recently "Just Shoot Me"
in 1999.
