Record-Rama Sound Archives in Ross Township closed for business on Saturday night, and its 3 million albums, singles and CDs will go to the highest bidder on eBay.

Paul Mawhinney said the collection at his record store on Perry Highway was so extensive that officials from the Library of Congress told him they were envious.

"They tell me I have twice as much as they do," he said.

Rows of rock, easy listening, Christmas, religious and local music line the store.

"All the Pittsburgh stuff -- there's a Pittsburgh section in here and it includes, like, Porky Chedwick," Mawhinney said.

Some collectors claim to have more inventory, but what makes Mawhinney's collection so valuable is his archive system. All items are numbered in a computer database.

Though Mawhinney estimates his collection's worth at somewhere between $70 million and $90 million, it's listed on eBay for $3 million.

Mawhinney said he is listing the collection in a semi-private area of eBay where bidders are screened. He also said a few private collectors are coming to town to look at what he has.

"I have six active bidders now that are fighting over what they're going to do, but there's three people outside of that thing that are interested too," he said. "I'm not sure where it's going to end, but it's going to end in the next five days. I have to make a decision."
