The Strand Theater Initiative will once again embrace its "dark side" with the return of the Northern Nightmares Halloween Festival; a month-long, family-friendly event that focuses more on fun than fright, although a few ‘scares' are in the works. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the group's "Drive to Revive" Zelienople's landmark former cinema as a performing arts, education and community outreach center. Northern Nightmares runs every Friday and Saturday night in October, starting Friday, October 5th.

Rather than a single attraction, Northern Nightmares offers a variety of activities, most free to the public.
