Pittsburgh Schools Get Report Card

A+ Schools Releases Report On Pittsburgh School District

Every parent who has children in the Pittsburgh Public School District will soon get a "report card in the mail" for their child's school.

The fourth-annual report on school progress was released by A+ Schools, an independent group specializing in public education.

The report includes math and reading scores as well as attendance and graduation rates. It also includes other data such as race, gender and socio-economic status and explores how those statistics plays a role in school performance.

Carey Harris of A+ Schools said the report finds that more work needs to be done for African-American students.

"Most schools have higher scores from 2008 than they did four years ago. We also see that the majority of schools with four through eighth grade showed a year's worth of progress for a year's worth of schooling," Harris said.

A+ Schools also said the study shows the district is moving in the right direction.
