Drivers on the Greensburg Pike in Churchill may have had a hard time keeping their eyes on the road after someone tossed hundreds of dollars in counterfeit bills onto the roadway.

Channel 4 Action News' John Greiner reported that the $20 bills are well made and anyone who didn't know they were fake would have a hard time telling the counterfeit bills from the real deal.

Counterfeit bills found in Churchill look like real $20s.

"Guy threw money out the window and they went through the red light and down a hundred miles an hour. So I looked and I slowed down and there were 20s flying in the air. And your first indication was, 'Oh, let me stop and pick up a few.' But I knew something was up, either, I thought it was a bank robbery," said witness John Rocco.

It wasn't a bank robbery, but witnesses said it looked like it was raining $20 bills. Police said some folks probably thought it was their lucky day.

"Well, we got several hundred, so we know that some people picked up even more than we picked up. So we're not sure exactly how much was out there," said Churchill Police Chief Allen Park.

The most noticeable difference between a real bill and a fake one is the real $20 feels rougher, Greiner reported.

The fake bills in this case all have the serial No. gf-571-09-267a and are series 2004.

Police said they aren't sure who threw the money out a window or why, but they've warned Churchill-area businesses to be on the lookout for fake bills.

"If you pick it up, turn it over to the Secret Service. The money is counterfeit and it's worthless, so don't try to spend it," said Park.

Police also received reports that some of the money was thrown out in the Wilkinsburg area as well.
