A woman wearing nothing but tiger stripes was locked in a cage on Saturday in Pittsburgh's Market Square as part of a demonstration against the circus.

The demonstration was staged by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The woman painted as a tiger and crammed into the small cage was designed to bring awareness to what goes on behind the scenes at Ringling Brothers Circus, which PETA claimed treats animals cruelly.

They say the animals are kept in chains and beaten when they don't perform unnatural tricks. "No independent authority, government agency or humane organization monitors training sessions. Ringling elephant trainers have been videotaped and observed beating elephants, including babies, with metal tipped rods called bull hooks," said Lindsay Rajt, a spokeswoman for PETA.

PETA said they have witness accounts and video of abuse. The organization has called for a boycott of the Ringling Brothers Circus.
