NCAA Game Summary - Akron At Buffalo

POSTED: 9:09 pm EDT October 17, 2009

(Sports Network) - Naaman Roosevelt caught 12 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns, as the Buffalo Bulls rallied for a 21-17 win over the Akron Zips in a Mid-American Conference clash at UB Stadium.

Bulls (3-4, 1-2 MAC) quarterback Zach Maynard completed 20-of-35 passes for 205 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the win.

For Akron (1-5, 0-3), Patrick Nicely went 17-of-34 for 200 yards and two interceptions. Nicely was taking over at quarterback for Matt Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last week. Rodgers was stepping in for Chris Jacquemain, who was dismissed from the team earlier this season.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mike Ward got the Zips on the board early in the second quarter, when he recovered a Nicely fumble in the end zone to bail out his quarterback.

Roosevelt answered for UB midway through the same quarter, when he hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Maynard.

Roosevelt gave the Bulls the lead with an eight-yard touchdown grab from Maynard at the 4:34 mark of the third quarter.

Akron tied the score at 14-14 on Alex Allen's one-yard touchdown plunge with just under 13 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Zips took a 17-14 lead on Branko Rogovic's 30-yard field goal with 9:57 to play.

But UB answered with a nine-play, 68-yard drive, capped by Mario Henry's one- yard touchdown run that proved to be the game-winner. Akron's final two drives ended with a punt and an interception.

The Zips had a slight edge in total offense (334-312), but they committed four turnovers and scored on only two of their four red-zone chances.
