(Sports Network) - Dion Lewis rushed for 180 yards and a pair of scores on 31 carries to lead the Pittsburgh Panthers in a 24-17 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Big East clash at Rutgers Stadium.

Bill Stull threw for 153 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-24 passing for the Panthers (6-1, 3-0 Big East), who snapped a four-game slide against Rutgers. Dorin Dickerson hauled in six balls for 42 yards and a score in the triumph.

Tom Savage recorded 248 yards, a TD and a pick on 23-of-39 efficiency for the Scarlet Knights (4-2, 0-2), who saw their four-game winning streak halted. Mohamed Sanu had a rushing score and 29 yards on four touches. Tim Brown had 96 yards and a touchdown on seven grabs.

Both teams scored on their first possession, as Sanu dashed in for an 11-yard score and Stull countered with a seven-yard TD pass to Dickerson to make it 7-7 after the first quarter.

Dan Hutchins had a 45-yard field goal in the second and Lewis added a TD run later in the stanza. However, San San Te booted a 23-yard field goal as the half expired to make it 17-10 at the break.

Lewis broke open a 58-yard touchdown rush late in the third to give the Panthers a 24-10 edge.

Brown's 19-yard TD grab with about 9 1/2 minutes left to play closed it to 24-17, but Pitt held on for the win from there.
