POSTED: 5:16 pm EDT September 9, 2006

(Sports Network) - Zac Taylor was 19-of-23 passing for 202 yards with four touchdowns, as the 21st-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers demolished I-AA Nicholls State, 56-7, at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska (2-0) was in total control of the contest, outgaining the Colonels 498-187 and holding a 30-7 advantage in first downs. Marlon Lucky ran for 103 yards on 18 carries in the victory.

The Cornhuskers, after two home victories to start the season, will get a test next week when they visit third-ranked Southern California.

Broderick Cole scored the lone touchdown for Nicholls State (1-1), which beat Southern Arkansas to open the season last week. The Colonels attempted just three passes Saturday and had zero yards.

Nebraska wasted no time taking advantage of a fumble by Nicholls State quarterback Vincent Montgomery on the Colonels' opening drive of the game, as running back Cody Glenn capped an 11-play, 53-yard scoring drive with a one- yard touchdown run to get the Cornhuskers on the board first.

After a three and out by the Nicholls State offense, the Cornhuskers added another touchdown when Taylor hit fullback Dane Todd in the end zone for a one-yard score with 28 seconds remaining in the opening quarter to finish off an 11-play, 51-yard drive.

Nicholls State's offense continued to struggle on its third offensive possession as Nebraska held the Colonels to another three and out.

The Cornhuskers needed only 1:20 to put another touchdown on the board when Taylor threw his second scoring pass of the first half, connecting with tight end Matt Herian on a 19-yard strike.

Lucky closed out the scoring in the first half when he ran it in for a one- yard touchdown to put the Cornhuskers ahead 28-0.

The Cornhuskers picked up right where they left off in the first half when Taylor hit wide receiver Frantz Hardy for a 14-yard touchdown pass, putting the finishing touches on a nine-play, 77-yard scoring drive.

On the Huskers' next possession, Taylor continued his dominance over the Colonels' defense when he hit wide receiver Maurice Purify for a 42-yard score.

Nicholls State finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter when Grant Thorne had a 49-yard run and Cole capped the two-play, 50-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to make it 42-7.

Nebraska answered with a score of its own on the next possession when Kenny Wilson ran one in from 14 yards out. Glenn closed the scoring for the Huskers when he finished off a five-play, 49-yard drive with seven-yard touchdown run to account for the final margin.
