NCAA Game Summary - Marshall At UCF

POSTED: 12:52 am EST November 2, 2009

(Sports Network) - Brett Hodges' one-yard touchdown throw to Rocky Ross with 23 seconds left lifted Central Florida to a 21-20 comeback win over Marshall.

Hodges finished with 342 yards and two scores on 23-of-45 passing for UCF (5-3, 3-2 C-USA), which has won two in a row. Brynn Harvey ran for 47 yards and a score on 21 carries, while Kamar Aiken also had a touchdown grab.

Brian Anderson passed for 237 yards and a TD on 13-of-28 throws, and was intercepted once. Cody Slate caught the score, finishing with five grabs for 80 yards for Marshall (5-4, 3-2), which has followed each of its last three wins with a loss. Darius Marshall ended with 80 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

UCF faced a 20-7 deficit after Craig Ratanamorn kicked a 21-yard field goal with 3:25 left in the third quarter. But after the Thundering Herd punted deep from their own territory five minutes into the fourth, the Golden Knights took over at the Marshall 43 and drove for a score, a two-yard run by Harvey that made it a game with 7:51 left.

After another Herd punt, UCF got to the Marshall 18 but turned the ball over on downs. However, the Knights got another shot after Anderson fumbled on the ensuing Marshall drive, and Josh Robinson recovered at the Marshall 30.

UCF had 2:12 with which to work and got the game-winning score. Hodges converted a 3rd-and-10 with a 19-yard pass to Aiken, and on the next play he found Ross from one yard out. Nick Cattoi's extra point made the difference.

Slate's four-yard TD reception broke a scoreless tie nearly three minutes into the second quarter, and Aiken's four-yard scoring reception tied the game nearly midway through the stanza. But a 30-yarder from Ratanamorn and three- yard TD run from Marshall made it a 17-7 game at the break.
