Jonesboro, AR -- (Sports Network) - Corey Leonard threw for 149 yards and one touchdown, as the Arkansas State Red Wolves defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers in a Sun Belt Conference battle at ASU Stadium.

Leonard also ran for 120 yards for Arkansas State (2-4, 1-2 SBC), while Reggie Arnold added 104 rushing yards and one touchdown on 23 totes.

As for the Golden Panthers (1-6, 1-3), they were paced by Paul McCall, who threw for 173 yards on 17-of-31 passing. However, the signal caller also tossed an interception and was sacked twice in the loss.

The Red Wolves jumped out on top 7-0 midway through the opening frame when Leonard hit Jeff Blake with a five-yard touchdown pass.

That would be the score throughout the rest of the first half, as Arkansas State went into the break holding the small lead over FIU.

Minutes into the third quarter the Red Wolves extended their advantage to 14-0 with a five-yard touchdown run by Lawson.

A 26-yard field goal by Josh Arauco late in the frame pushed ASU's edge to 17-0, but the Golden Panthers finally got on the score with just 15 seconds remaining in the quarter thanks to a 36-yard kick by Dustin Rivest.

FIU pulled within a touchdown of tying the contest midway through the fourth frame when Darriet Perry plunged into the end zone on a two-yard run.

The Red Wolves instantly responded however, as Reggie Arnold scampered into the end zone on a 14-yard run.

A 32-yard field goal by Arauco with just over a minute remaining in play sealed the deal for Arkansas State, which would eventually win by a 17-point margin.

The Red Wolves rumbled for 276 rushing yards in the contest, while FIU was bottled up for just 32 rushing yards on 1.3 yards per attempt.
