Wisconsin-Green Bay (22-8) At Wright State (17-12)
GAME NOTES: The regular season will conclude for two teams this evening, as the Wright State Raiders host the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix in a Horizon League tilt at the Nutter Center. The Phoenix head into this matchup with a 13-4 mark in Horizon play and the team could earn a share of the regular season title and the first seed in the conference tournament if Butler falls to Cleveland State. Green Bay would earn the first seed due to their season sweep over UW-Milwaukee. The last time the Phoenix were in action the team grabbed its third consecutive win with a 78-62 decision over Detroit. As for the Raiders, they snapped a two-game slide with a 70-60 victory over the UW- Milwaukee Panthers on Thursday. It was the ninth home win on the year for Wright State, which bumped its league ledger to 11-6. With respect to the all- time series between the two schools on the hardwood, the Phoenix hold a 21-17 edge over Wright State, and that includes a 57-46 victory for Green Bay earlier this season.
The Phoenix soared in their recent win over Detroit, as the team shot 50.0 percent from the field and from long range, while also using a 34-of-33 clip from the foul line. Four players tallied double-figures in the win, beginning with Ryan Tillema, who posted 18 points for the Phoenix. Troy Cotton added 17 points in the win, while Mike Schachtner and Rahmon Fletcher posted 14 and 11 points, respectively. Tillema has missed some time this season, but when on the floor the guard has been the safest option, and is leading the team with 16.9 ppg. Cotton is contributing 12.4 ppg, while Schachtner is posting 11.6 ppg. As for Fletcher, he is chipping in 10.7 ppg on the season, but is pacing the squad with 124 assists. As a whole Green Bay heads into this matchup averaging a mediocre 73.2 ppg, behind a mediocre 44.8 percent shooting effort.
The Raiders have used a tenacious defensive approach throughout the season, as the team is holding opponents to just 56.7 ppg. Wright State's stingy play at that end of the floor continued in the team's recent win over Milwaukee, as the Raiders held the Panthers to just 36.4 percent shooting from the floor. At the other end of the court the team was paced by Todd Brown's 21-point effort. N'Gai Evans added 17 points and six rebounds, while Will Graham and Scott Grote posted 10 points apiece. Unfortunately on the season the only player netting double-figures for Wright State is Brown, who is posting 11.6 ppg, while also grabbing 5.1 rpg.
The Raiders should keep this matchup close with their defensive play, but with so much riding on this final regular season game, look for the Phoenix to grab a key road win and head into the postseason on a high note.
