Hansbrough Picks Notre Dame

Starkville, MS -- (Sports Network) - Mississippi State sophomore guard Ben Hansbrough, younger brother of North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, decided on Monday to transfer to Notre Dame.Hansbrough originally made the decision to transfer out of Mississippi State earlier in the month. NCAA rules state the he has to sit out the upcoming season but the 6-foot-3 205-pounder has two years of eligibility remaining starting in 2009-10. Other teams Hansbrough was reportedly considering included Purdue, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Butler. Hansbrough started 28 games averaging 10.5 points per game for a Bulldogs team that finished the 2007-08 season 23-11 with an SEC West title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The former Bulldog tied for the team lead in made three-pointers with 62, led the team in free throw percentage (.789) and played a key role in helping Mississippi State come within four points of knocking off eventual runner-up Memphis in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Hansbrough is expected to arrive in South Bend on June 20 after completing his spring semester requirements.
