Marquette's James Cleared To Return

POSTED: 10:15 am EDT March 22, 2009

(Sports Network) - Marquette senior guard Dominic James has been cleared to return to the court after sitting out the past 3 1/2 weeks with a broken bone in his left foot.

James was hurt four minutes into a February 25 game against Connecticut and was thought to be lost for the season. He underwent surgery two days later, but had an extensive evaluation process during the past week and could see action in Sunday's NCAA Tournament game against Missouri.

"I don't know how much he'll be able to contribute," said Marquette head coach Buzz Williams. "He worked out the day we got here (Boise), he worked out Friday morning before our game, worked out Friday night, practiced with us [Saturday]. So medically he's been cleared, but how much he'll be able to contribute, I don't know."

Marquette was ranked eighth in the nation and had a record of 23-4 heading into the UConn game before James was injured. The Eagles have won just twice since, including Friday's 58-57 victory over Utah State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

James is averaging 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and a team-best 5.1 assists in 28 games this season. His 62 steals is also a team high.
