NCAA Game Summary - Maine Vs. Richmond

POSTED: 9:50 pm EST November 5, 2007

(Sports Network) - David Gonzalvez scored a game-high 15 points and hit a pair of free throws with 3.6 seconds left in the game, as Richmond edged Maine, 44-42, in the opener of the Memphis region of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

Oumar Sylla added nine points for the Spiders, who advance to take on third-ranked Memphis in the regional final Tuesday evening.

Mark Socoby scored 14 points and recorded a game-best 10 rebounds for the Black Bears, who will play Tennessee-Martin in a consolation contest later Tuesday. Junior Bernal backed that up with 10 points in a losing effort.

Bernal's eight first-half points led Maine into a 23-23 deadlock at the break.

Richmond started the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 32-25 lead seven minutes in, but the Black Bears stormed back with a 10-2 blitz to regain a 35-34 edge with less than eight minutes to go.

However, two three-pointers by Gonzalvez pulled Richmond ahead and they never fell behind after that.
