Albany, NY -- (Sports Network) - Ryan Schneider and David Devezin both scored 14 points, as the 10th-seeded Marist Red Foxes knocked off the seventh-seeded Iona Gaels, 43-40, in the first round of the 28th annual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the Times Union Center.

Schneider had five boards and two steals and Devezin made 7-of-9 field goals for Marist (10-22), which will take on second-seeded Niagara in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.

Scott Machado was the only player to reach double figures for Iona (12-19), finishing the night with 14 points.

The first half ended in a 21-21 stalemate, as both teams shot just under 34 percent from the floor in the period.

The tenacious defense continued in the second stanza, and Marist held Iona to just a 30.4 percent shooting effort from the field on its way to the three- point win.

The Gaels certainly did not make the most of their free-throw chances, going a dismal 6-of-17 at the line.
