Consumer advocate Mary Bach, who gained national recognition without an attorney or law degree, is once again reaching out to consumers hoping they can avoid similar problems she faced over the Easter holiday.

Bach, of Murrysville, Westmoreland County, said she was overcharged for sale items she bought at the Delmont Wal-Mart just after Easter.

Bach said management knew about the problem, but it happened again the next day, prompting her to make a stop at the district judge's office in Export.

"The items were supposed to be 50 percent off. Instead, they only discounted those items 15 percent," said Bach.

Wal-Mart settled the case by giving her a check for $266.

While Bach was overcharged only by 68 cents, consumer law allows customers to sue for $100 per overcharged item, plus court costs.

It marked the fourth time Bach has sued Wal-Mart.

She's won cases against six other retailers as well.

"I think there is much more than this that goes on in the retail market place at lots of different stores than consumers are aware," said Bach.

Wal-Mart said it strives for 100 percent accuracy in its stores, and if a discrepancy is found, remains committed to making it right for the customer.

"The way the economy is today, you don't want to be overcharged for anything. A dollar is too much," said shopper Diane Buterbaugh.
