POSTED: 1:31 am EDT May 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cristian Mijares scored a 12-round split decision over Venezuelan veteran Alexander Munoz to unify the WBC and WBA super flyweight titles Saturday night.

Mijares (35-3-2), who held the WBC belt going into the bout, won by scores of 116-111 and 115-112 from two of the judges, while Munoz (32-3) was a 115-113 victor on the third scorecard.

The 26-year-old Mijares has won his last two fights via split decision, and the Mexican southpaw is unbeaten in his last 25 fights. A native of Durango, Mijares is 24-0-1 since dropping a 10-round decision to Jose Alfredo Tirado in 2002.
