Squirrel Hill Tunnel Lights Back On After Power Outage

POSTED: 11:54 am EDT August 21, 2008
UPDATED: 11:36 am EDT August 22, 2008

A power outage in the Squirrel Hill Tunnel that had traffic backed up on both sides for most of Thursday has been fixed.

PennDOT said a contractor using an auger to do work near Shady Avenue in Squirrel Hill dug into one of Duquesne Light's underground cables.

About half of the lights in the tunnel were not working. The outage started in the morning and continued to the evening rush hour.

The tunnel was never closed, but vehicles were moving slowly through it.

All of the lights are back on.
