Parkway North/I-279 Lanes Shift Again

PennDOT Construction Work Continues

UPDATED: 8:59 am EDT September 17, 2008

Starting Tuesday night, a new traffic pattern on the Parkway North/Interstate 279 was put in place for outbound commuters headed from Pittsburgh to the northern suburbs.

Because of ongoing construction work, outbound (northbound) traffic will be shifted into the high-occupancy vehicle lanes between Exit 11 (McKnight/Evergreen Road) and Exit 12 (Perrysville).

PennDOT said northbound traffic will be narrowed from three lanes to two at the McKnight Road off-ramp at Exit 11. The right northbound lane will become an exit-only lane, while the center and left lanes will be diverted into the HOV area.

During this phase of construction, northbound trucks and buses will be restricted to the right lane only in the HOV lanes. The HOV ramp to the Perrysville park-and-ride and the Perrysville northbound off-ramp will be closed.

These traffic patterns will remain in effect through late October, PennDOT said.
